Tutorial Video Showing How I Get Bebe To Do the Over-The-Shoulder Pose

The over the shoulder pose is a great way to take photos to show off the back of your dogs outfits. I made a video I made showing you all how I get Bebe to look over her shoulder for photos. I had made a REALLY good video, but of course, I accidentally deleted it. So, I had to reshoot this video. I hope this video helps you learn how I trained Bebe and you can pick up some of the tips to try to teach your dog how to look over their shoulder for photos.

When training your dogs, please make sure to be patient with them. If you feel yourself or your dog getting frustrated, take a break. It is not good for your dog if they are having a negative experience with the training sessions. Also, remember to reward their good behaviors as they are learning this new pose. Your dog is not going to learn this right away, so it's going to take some training sessions and practice. Just be patient and enjoy the bonding experience with your dog as you both learn together.

Here's the steps that I take:
  1. Get some yummy treats for the dog. Show the dog the treat and let them have a taste.
  2. Put the dog in a sit position facing away from you.
  3. Hold down the back end of the dog. Don't hold them too hard. Just a light touch to let them know that you are there and to keep their sit down position. If they are wearing a dress, you can also hold the bottom edge of the dress down towards the ground.
  4. Hold the treat in front of the dogs face and bring the treat around the shoulder of the dog to behind them so they follow the treat with their head. Keep doing this so they learn the action that you want from them.
  5. Once the dog maintains concentration on the treat looking over their shoulder, slowly let go of the dog with your hand that was keeping their rear end down.
  6. Keep their attention on you and take the photo.
  7. Reward the dog with the treat so they know that they will get a treat for their good behavior.
  8. The most important tip I can give you is to be patient and don't get frustrated with your dog. If you get frustrated, it'll make the dog frustrated. Take a break whenever you or your dog needs one. You want to have the training process to be a bonding experience with your dog and you want them to have it as a positive experience.
